3 things Kenyans are buying online

Over the past few years, Kenyans have gradually embraces online shopping. Online shopping has opened many doors to unemployed youth who have either opened up an online store or joined the industry as online marketers.

Global Digital Stats and Report, there were 22.86 Million internet users in Kenya in January 2020. Social Media Users summed up to almost 8.80 Million. This shows customers are already engaging with brands through social media, and if you’re not engaging directly with your audience through social platforms like Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, you’re missing out!

Online shopping is a lucrative venture. So lucrative that the KRA felt that it was missing out in the action and decide to institute measures to compel these new-age entrepreneurs to pay taxes. So, you want to set up a lucrative online business? Here are a few things that Kenyans are looking for online.

Electronics

You can never go wrong with electronics. A high percentage of online shops in Kenya deal in this array.  There is a high demand for electronic products and an even higher supply. These means that it would be very easy for you to get a supplier who is desperate to offload his/her products, therefore giving you his/her goods at very favourable terms.

Another reason why Electronics do well in Kenya is because most importers have known how to work the system. Therefore their goods are mostly exempt from taxes, thus making them very affordable.

Sex Toys

This is the holy grail of online shopping. If you want to make money fast, go the sex toy way. Sex toys are a taboo product, this means that on the surface, people act uninterested while deep down, they are actively searching for them.

An online shopping platform ensures anonymity. A person can “window shop” anonymously, pay anonymously and the products are delivered at the convenience of the buyer.

As Kenyans become more liberal, the uptake of sex toys will increase exponentially and the stockists of these products will keep smiling all the way to the bank.

Cosmetics

Women are impulse buyers. They will see a new shade of lipstick and they will automatically want to get one. The advantage that online shops have over brick and motor stores is that they can constantly bombard their target audience over a myriad of channels. This means online stores can prey on the bulk buying weakness by showing women different kinds of products constantly on different online platforms.

Cosmetics are also relatively inexpensive hence they can be afforded by a high number of people.
